Thanks To All our Members Breeders and Followers

2005 marks the National Rat Terriers Associations 10th anniversary since our birth.

We sincerely thank our breeders who have put forth their best efforts to keep the breed as it has existed for so many years. Their love and concern for our breed has made a huge difference for all new owners. Without them we would not have been able to share the joys, mind you along with the tribulations, of being owned by a Rat Terrier. Rats are a breed of their own and posses qualities that can not be replicated in most other breeds - this includes all branches of rat terriers, including not only the Type A, but also the Type B and the Decker bloodline. Keeping intelligence, abilities and health strong goes a long way in preserving popularity. We cannot forget to mention that the Rat is such a character that they could probably sell themselves.

We thank our members. Without them we wouldn’t exist. Their loyalty to us has proven to be a success beyond any dreams. All the contributions that they have given us have only improved our awareness and educated us. They have shared their joys and sorrows, their funny stories and heroic ones. The endless photos that come in of our very proud Rat owners point out the incredible individuality, versatility and just how much Rats enjoy not only the company of their owners and each other but get along with a multitude of other animals too. There is so much love in this breed that we've heard many times that "Rats are some sort of wonderful alien and not a dog at all".

We also thank our officials. The loyalty and immense commitment that they have made to the NRTA has made us a tight knit group that is willing to help each other. Our officials have a great passion for the breed and strong beliefs in the NRTA; this (at times) makes them strongly opinionated and sometimes they can have such strong feelings and a protective nature that heads can knock. All people do not necessarily have the same opinions but what we all have in common is first and foremost a strong love for the Rat Terrier. We are all committed to the same thing…….the Association for the Rat.

This club is really not for us but for the Breed. In its infancy the association never dreamed that it could become what it has. We have had our hard times in the past but vowed to not become like everyone else. We are non political, show the truths and point out the other side when ever we are able. Our basic values are do what is right, try our best and evolve with what is going on.
