Terrier Breed. It is a safe procedure and can be done several ways. Pictured below is one breeders account of how it is done. She first clamps off the tail and a cut is made between the clamps. The cut is made approximately 1/2" but no more than 3/4" left from the base of the tail. The first clamp cuts off the blood supply so it is virtually bloodless. Once the cut is done you can use either Silver Nitrate Sticks, Crazy Glue or Stitches to seal off the cut. Stitches tend to leave more of a scar than by just glueing or cauterizing. The hair grows back in both locations very nicely and usually you can not tell that it was even removed. Next comes the due claws. Bring the clamp very close to the inside edge
of the dew claw against the skin and squeeze.
Some vets these days will not do this procedure. Other breeders may use the technique of banding. |
