Yep, Booger was a rat terrier......

And she made a beleiver out of me.  I was one of the original "Me? A small dog? Heavens forbid!" persons until I attended a rabbit show 19 years ago and this tiny little thing kept slipping through the bars of the crate and seeking me out.  After many multiple returns with an embarrassed "I'm really not trying to steal your dog!" from me, the owner looked me in the eye and said "If that pup wants you THAT bad, she can have you!" and handed her to me.  I looked at the pup and said "Are you SURE about this?" and she whirled in circles.  Needless to say, she was sure and micro managed me for the next 19 years.

This was the dog who knew when I felt bad and would climb up and lie next to me, who refused to take "NO" as an order when I came home from my cancer surgery and would climb up and lie so close to the edge of the bed a hard breath would have knocked her off just to watch and make sure I was ok, who would snuggle when meds made me sick.  She would find a baby rabbit that had fallen out of the cage and bring it to me without ruffeling a hair, as if to say "Well?  Fix it!", but would take on a full grown groundhog three times her size and a barn rat as big as she was when they came in from the fields at harvest time.  Who would baby sit kittens for mama kitty and thought snow was great to walk on top of.  (We got 28 inches last December and she thought it was solid, shot out of the house, off the back porch.........and sank.  Between laughing so hard I cried I called her and all you could see was the tips of her ears as she bounced to see where she was going to get back to the porch!  The look I got for laughing made it very plain that she just knew I had set her up and I was ignored for a whole 15 minutes as punishment)  She would "talk" when she wanted something and needed to point it out and would "mutter" when something didn't go her way.  I have never in my life had so intelligent and quick to learn a dog, and will always have a rattie in my home from now on.
