Hikaru Genjii, my little Type B red-head son, made his first kill at four months old, on 8-25-06. Sabine had apparently heard or spotted the small rodent first. She's a two year old Type B that is a really persistent and fine-tuned hunter. Once she started cornering the small rat, Hikaru rushed in to see what was going on. Sabine growled at him quietly and he actually shut up and watched her. Sabine maneuvered the rat until she could snap it up in her jaws and snap its neck - not one hair on her beautiful body was touched. Then she tossed the still-twitching rodent to Hikaru. With bristles up the length of his back, he growled and killed that rat over and over again, then proudly brought it into the house (the ratties' den) where he could show it off. He wouldn't let any of the other ratties touch it, but he did allow them to sniff it all they wanted to. Eventually I got him to trade the rodent to me for a piece of bacon - good trade! Sherri |
